How I started in this field

It wasn't a planned career. Back in 2010, my family renovated our Mong Kok apartment and I got completely absorbed in figuring out which surfaces would actually work in our tight space. We made mistakes — expensive ones. Ordered marble that didn't suit our lighting. Chose finishes that looked great in showrooms but felt wrong once installed. That's when something clicked for me.

I realized homeowners didn't lack taste or vision. They just didn't have reliable guidance before dropping serious money on materials. So I pursued formal training at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, studying Building Technology. Spent my first five years working with renovation firms like ASG Contractors, learning how materials actually perform in Hong Kong's humid climate — not how they're supposed to perform in textbooks.

The real breakthrough came in 2016 when I started my consultation practice. I wasn't fixing botched installations anymore. I was preventing them. By 2019, partnering with Texture Select Limited felt natural. We'd found our shared mission: demystify material selection so people can make confident, informed decisions about surfaces that'll last 15 years or more.

Core areas of focus

Specialized guidance across material selection, texture pairing, and surface finishing for residential spaces.

Texture Pairing

Understanding how different textures interact. Wood with stone. Matte with gloss. Soft with hard. It's not random — there's a logic to combinations that feel right and last well together.

Space Planning

Mong Kok apartments aren't spacious. Materials need to work harder here. Light colors that make tight spaces feel open. Finishes that hide wear. Choices that function, not just look good.

Climate Performance

Hong Kong's humidity is relentless. Some materials handle it. Others don't. I help you pick surfaces that won't warp, fade, or deteriorate in our subtropical climate. Real-world durability matters.

Sustainable Choices

Eco-friendly doesn't mean compromising on aesthetics or performance. Local materials reduce costs and environmental impact. We've got better options now than we did ten years ago.

Finishing Techniques

How surfaces are finished determines everything. Sealant choices. Surface treatments. Application methods. Small decisions that compound into durability and aesthetic results over years.

Workshop Direction

Teaching homeowners how to think about materials. Not memorizing specifications — understanding principles. Our workshops give you frameworks to make better decisions independently.

My approach to material consultation

Education first

I don't tell people what to choose. I teach them how to think about choices. With proper understanding, anyone can make informed decisions that they'll be happy with for years.

Practical over theoretical

Showroom samples aren't real life. Different lighting, humidity, foot traffic. I focus on how materials actually perform in Hong Kong homes — not how they perform in controlled environments.

Honest about trade-offs

Every material has strengths and limitations. Marble looks stunning but needs maintenance. Tile is durable but can feel cold. I help you understand what you're actually getting.

Long-term thinking

Renovations are expensive. You'll live with these choices for over a decade. Decisions should be made with that timeline in mind, not just how things look on day one.
